GitHub Copilot x Sectors Community Meetup

Walk in having never written a line of code, or having never let an AI write one. Walk out with a stock app running live on the web, pulling real IDX data, and a link you can share with anyone.

Build a real stock web app with an AI pair programmer, even if you have never written a line of code. You work in VS Code, GitHub Copilot writes the code with you, and the Sectors API feeds your app live data from the Indonesia Stock Exchange. Type in a ticker, and your app shows you the company, its key numbers, and a price chart.

The vibe is casual and hands on. You start with a small warm-up app to learn how to talk to Copilot, then build your IDX Stock Snapshot app one step at a time from a ready-made starter project, so nobody spends the afternoon fighting their setup. By four o'clock you walk away with two working apps on your laptop, one of them live on the web, free Sectors credits to keep it running, and a take-home challenge for the weekend.

Students, analysts, career switchers, and the tech curious are all welcome. Set up VS Code, Python, and the Copilot extension a few days ahead; no time to install? GitHub Codespaces opens the whole starter project in your browser, ready to go. This session is about building software, not investment advice.

For years, building an app meant learning to code first and building something useful much later. That order has flipped. You describe what you want in plain words, Copilot writes it, and your job becomes the part that was always the point: knowing what to ask for and checking what comes back. Bring a laptop and a ticker you are curious about. The code is on us.

Prompt, iterate, ship, the whole afternoon in three words

Meet Your AI Pair Programmer

See the finish line, then meet your new workspace.

  • A live look at the Stock Snapshot app you build this afternoon.
  • A quick tour of VS Code: the explorer, the editor, and the terminal.
  • Copilot's Ask, Edit, and Agent modes, and when to use each one.
Warm-Up: Investment Goal Calculator

Learn to talk to Copilot on something small first.

  • Ask Copilot what Streamlit is and how it turns Python into a web page.
  • Describe a calculator in plain words and let Agent mode build it.
  • Tweak it with Edit mode, reviewing every change before you accept it.
Connecting to Real Market Data

Swap made-up numbers for live IDX data.

  • Keep your Sectors API key safe in a .env file.
  • Pull live data for any IDX ticker with a ready-made helper.
  • Ask Copilot what each field means, from closing price to market cap.
Building Your IDX Stock Snapshot App

Type a ticker, see the company. Build at your own pace.

  • Core: a ticker input, company info, and a price chart.
  • Level Up: date ranges, metric cards, and friendly error messages.
  • Stretch: compare tickers, add a financials tab, make the layout yours.
Live Data with MCP and Shipping Your App

Plug Copilot into the market, then put your app online.

  • How MCP plugs the AI into Sectors data, like a USB port for tools.
  • Watch Agent mode answer "Top IDX gainers this week?" straight from Sectors.
  • Deploy your app and open the live link on your phone.
Showcase, Coffee, and Networking

The building ends, the bragging begins.

  • Show off your app and the prompt that made it click.
  • Take home a challenge to keep building over the weekend.
  • Meet the rest of the community over fresh coffee and light bites.
